Class 3 – What have we been doing? (03.2010)

Tigers class have had an interesting term finding out all about water. We started off with looking at water around the world, taking in aspects of geography, science and PSHE. We found out about the water cycle and used the Internet to research what life is like for people in countries without a clean water supply. We then moved on to find out how water is transported from reservoirs to our homes. In DT we made a simple paddle boat powered by elastic bands and have attempted to design and construct a water wheel. In art, the children have studied pictures of water by famous artists and have recreated Monet’s famous water lilies picture using mixed media. We have written stories and poems around the theme of water, made information sheets for younger children and posters to encourage people to save water – altogether a very productive topic!

In RE we enjoyed a visit to Little Bytham church to complete our topic on Christianity. The children had a very successful term doing dance and gymnastics at Witham Hall. Mrs Welch, their coach, was full of praise for their efforts and said that they were the best group for their age that she had ever taught!

Next term, Tigers are looking forward to focusing on a historical topic – the Tudors. We hope to have a class trip to Burghley House to find out about life in Tudor times at first hand. Alongside this we will be studying teeth and eating in Science, designing and making a healthy meal in DT and PSHE and portraits in art.
