This has been a very busy term for the Lions.

We started off the term on a high when the Lions had a Sikhism day! The children learnt about the Sikh beliefs and lifestyles! We also sampled traditional food that would be served in the Langar (the Sikh kitchen). The children loved it!

The children have enjoyed doing a literacy topic on ‘argument’, they have practiced their debating skills and I’m sure we have some budding politicians in our midst! The children have enjoyed Hugo Cabaret, the book our topic was based on.

We are now finishing off our term looking at poetry with a link to conservation. The children have enjoyed researching issues that they feel strongly about and are now looking at writing their own poems to express this idea.

Lions have also been working incredibly hard on their dancing over the past couple of weeks. They have made a routine for the song ‘Jai Ho’ from the film Slumdog Millionaire (a link with our India topic) and have worked hard to perfect it. We will be performing it during the last week of term at a dance festival at the Stamford Arts Centre.

There is a lot more to mention, a topic on water, fantastic batiking, excellent rugby skills, food chains and adapting to environments…the list is endless…

Before the end of term we have a French day to look forwards to, this will provide an excellent opportunity for the children to sample French cuisine, play French games and develop their knowledge of the French language.

Next term the our topic is based around ‘Our Wonderful World,’ this links very nicely to look at sustainability and Africa. We also have the almighty SATS testing to look forwards to as well as assigning parts and practising for our wonderful play.

We look forwards to seeing you in the summer term.

The topic in the Lions class this term has been mysteries! The Lions have all worked incredibly hard and have been their usual enthusiastic selves!

In literacy we started off by looking at performance poetry. We looked at how poetry can be performed well and what poetic language is effective in performance poetry. The Lions performed and recorded their own performance poems.

Our second literacy topic was short stories with flash-backs. We looked at a lovely film clip called ‘The Piano.’ It was a very emotional clip which the children responded well to. The clip resulted in a lot of discussion and the children were able to discuss their feelings and emotions.

As a result of this literacy topic the children worked in groups to create a story about a flashback of school. They were incredibly lucky to have a film specialist come into school and help them make their stories into films! I know the children really enjoyed this experience and now we know how to make a film we can do it much more!

For the last two weeks the children have been looking at ‘dramatic conventions.’ This topic involves looking at scripting and performance. The children, Mrs Golby and I have all really enjoyed using Dr Who to fuel this topic. By the end of the term we hope to have made and filmed our own mini episode at the spinney!

The children have also enjoyed looking at shelters, they all managed to erect a tent and build shelters using the KNEX materials. The children enjoyed finding out about different types of shelters used in out locality and across the rest of the world.

In PSHE to Lions have also started to think about their goals- long and short term- the children have got some lovely targets to work towards and some fantastic dreams and aspirations.

Next term we look forward to a topic on India. We will be focusing on water, interdependence and adaptation, Indian dance and Sikhism. We also have our interim SATS week approaching in the second week of term.

This term Lions have coped fantastically with lots of changes and many interrupted weeks.

We started off the term with a trip to PGL in Caythorpe, this was a wonderful experience for staff and students alike! We had a great week and were very lucky with the weather. The children did a range of activities including high ropes, low ropes, abseiling, archery, shooting, climbing, giant swing and trapeze (just to name a few)! The children were an absolute pleasure to be with and represented the school fantastically.

The children have also had a big change this term in the respect of having a new classroom! This is a very exciting change for the whole school and everyone in the lions has been incredibly patient and helpful. We are all now enjoying settling into our new classroom and the benefits it provides…

The children have been very busy this term making some fantastic mountain models, they worked in groups to choose and make a mountain from a pre-assigned continent. We had a range of shapes and sizes of mountains (Table Mountain, Mount Logan, Mount Everest & Mount Matterhorn) and the children found out all about the tourism and the wildlife of the mountain. This was a great opportunity to have some hands on fun whilst learning.

In literacy the children had the opportunity to be news reporters for a worldwide event based on the BFI film ‘Dangle.’ For this they imagined a situation where the sun disappeared and the world was in darkness. The children responded well to this and produced some wonderful reports. The term has finished well, the children all worked hard to learn the songs for our Christmas carol concert. It was a huge shame that so many children were poorly, although Mrs Golby and I were very proud of the children who came and tried their best!

It is great to see that the Lions have settled in so well this term. I have been very impressed with their attitude towards challenges and their desire to do well! We have had an enjoyable term.

Our topic this term has been “superheroes” which has linked nicely into our literacy, DT and history.

During the term the children have had the opportunity to create their own superhero characters. The children had some amazing ideas ranging from “Batgirl” to “Colourkid”. The children used these characters to create an adventure story based on the film “The Incredibles”. There really was some fantastic writing and the children were very proud to display their work on the walls.

In DT the Lions have made superhero cars! This has been a wonderful project and the children have had fun planning, practicing, making and evaluating. The task proved that you are never too old for KNEX!

The Lions have also been very interested in the ancient Greeks especially Sparta, Greek stories and the Greek Gods. The Lions showed off their acting skills during a class assembly, they all worked incredibly hard and demonstrated fantastic senses of humour. Both Mrs Golby and myself were impressed. At the end of the term the Lions will expand their knowledge further with a Greek food day. We are all looking forward to making and trying new dishes.

Thank you Lions for a wonderful term, I am thoroughly looking forward to the delights of next term.

The last term for the Lions Class was an extremely busy one- we had lots of important tasks to do (like the SATS!). Everyone worked really hard and all the adults who worked with the Lions during SATS remarked on their positive attitude towards the tests!

After SATS we had a few weeks of thematic work- the first week was a ‘religious understanding week’ which was great fun! The children took a look at some of the major world religions including Sikhism, Islam and Hinduism. We all made artefcats, read stories and cooked some delicious food!

The week before we broke up the Lions had another exciting week investigating ‘where our food comes from’. This was a great week and the children were able to join forces with the Tigers class and do some incredibvle work. The highlights of the week were a visit to the Turners farmn, an Italian cooking day and a non-uniform day in aid of the school we are supporting in Malawi. The children were a pleasure to work with all week and we had a wonderful time!

This term the LIons have more fun instore- we have 2 visiting teachers in school called Miss Dalibey and Miss Grady who are going to be working with the class for the first 3 weeks! They have lots of wonderful ideas and will be continuing with the theme of ‘Victorians’ and will also be picking up on the theme of Healthy Eating in Science.

WE also have sports day to look forward to! The staff have decided on a world cup theme this year, with races inspired by the countories playing in the football festival. It should be great fun!

The class, parents, guardians and community also have the much awaited summer play to look forward to- this is a big event for the LIons class and they are really looking forwards to showing off their acting abilities! We have some real talent in the making at the Bythams School!

So, it is another really busy term ahead, but it should be a fantastic one!

This term the lions have been incredibly busy.

In literacy the lions have been looking at some amazing books, the first one being the arrival by Shaun Tan, this book really allowed the lions to use drama to convey their feelings and allowed them to get into role. The second book we looked at was Tuesday by Wiesner, this again led to fantastic work, with the children creating their own flying froggy character. We had great fun!

Due to the snow at the beginning of last term, the lions finished off their WW2 work at the beginning of this term. This was a brilliant topic that the children fully immersed themselves into. As a result of the incredible work and enthusiasm displayed through the WW2 topic the children went on a visit to Stibbington for an evacuation day. We had an absolutely fantastic day and the children took on the characters and lives of an actual child that was evacuated to Stibbington during the war. The children were met by a billeting officer, were shown round the village, had a WW2 themed lunch, went to school and even did a gas mask drill! It was wonderful. The highlight for me had to be the air raid that we encountered, we all squashed into the Anderson shelter where we sang songs and did our times tables.

The lions have also been busy practising for a dance festival that was held at Stamford Arts Centre- this is a lovely opportunity for the children to work together and show off their skills. The children worked extremely hard making up routines and perfecting their movements. I am extremely proud of all the hard work they put in and again, the drive and enthusiasm they showed.

Next term the lions have the SATS to look forwards to, these will be taking place the week commencing the 10th of May for the year 6’s and the following week for the year 5’s. SATs club will continue to run for the year 6’s wanting to take part. In the run-up to May we will be spending time in class preparing for the tests. Also next term we will be auditioning KS2 pupils for parts in our summer production- Mrs Martindale, Mr Shawley and I are very excited about this and can’t wait to see the children’s acting abilities.

Our topic next term will be focused around the Victorians with a more detailed look at Victorian children. I hope the children enjoy this as much as we have enjoyed learning about WW2.

Well done Lions, keep yourselves safe, have a great Easter and I will see you for a lovely summer term.

The class has been lucky enough to have an “Indian day” as a result of our Buddhism theme this was great and the children had lots of fun. We made 9 different Indian dishes, ranging from meat curries, to samosas, to Indian bread! The children also did some research on the computers to find out more about India, its cultures, traditions and geography.

Lions have also had a fantastic surprise when the school purchased 15 new laptops! The children have been having a great time exploring these and using them for their work!

The children have also produced some astounding Art work with Mrs Hammond, which has been linked with Aztecs and Christmas.

Next term our focus will be on Britain since 1930. An excellent topic which will link well with all the curriculum areas.

Have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

This term has been an extremely busy, yet exciting one for class 4.

Our topic for the term has been the mighty Aztecs which has seen us involved in many activities such as Aztec News writing, story writing, Aztec art, making Aztec food and making headdresses. It has been a wonderful topic which all the children have participated well in and have enjoyed.

Our science topic of ‘sun, earth and moon’ has also been very successful with all the children getting the opportunity to visit a planetarium which came into school. Staff and children were amazed at what we learnt and saw in such a small amount of time. It was fantastic!

Obviously, the highlight for many this half term was PGL! What a week…abseiling, kayaking, trapeze, high ropes, problem solving, archery…the list goes on. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to take the children and watch them grow and develop in their confidence and maturity. The staffing team were very proud of all the accomplishments they made in that week. So a big thank you to the children and also to Mrs Golby and Mr Shawley for all the support throughout the week.

Next term our topic focus is Geography based as we are going to be looking at rivers. We will start off the term by doing some river poetry which will lend itself nicely to poetic techniques. Our Science topic up until Christmas will be forces.

Lions class

This term the lions curriculum will be based around the theme of ‘The Aztecs.’ The Aztecs were a fascinating civilisation which the class are already enjoying learning about. Through the term we will look at Gods (including human sacrifice to add a bit of gore!), food (including chocolate) and other topics that will be formed by what the children would like to know. Our literacy will also have an Aztec focus, starting with a unit on Aztec news writing.

In Science we are learning about the earth and beyond, which will include learning about the moon, the sun and the other planets of our solar system. Last week the children enjoyed carrying out a physical theatre activity which involved them, as a class, acting out the relationship between the earth, sun and moon.

Samba drumming is also up and running again with 2 brand new teachers, it is timetabled for every Friday afternoon.

The children who are going to PGL this year are very excited (as are myself, Mr Shawley and Mrs Golby), hopefully it will be as much fun as last year.

Lions also have a class trip into Grantham for a bible exhibition later on in the term.

Its due to be an exciting term with lots of activity.
