The Bythams team have been addressing healthy lifestyles in school and as a result we are currently undergoing a new government initiative to achieve ‘healthy schools status’.
The Healthy Schools Programme (NHSP) is a joint initiative between DCSF (Department of Children, Schools and Families) and Department of Health (DH) – which promotes a whole school / whole child approach to health.
- Healthy Schools is intended to deliver real benefits in respect of:
- Improvement in health and reduced health inequalities;
- Raised pupil achievement;
- More social inclusion; and,
- Closer working between health promotion providers and education establishments
The Bythams School and the Healthy Schools Programme want all children and young people to be healthy and achieve at school and in life. We believe in providing opportunities at school for enhancing emotional and physical aspects of health. In the longer term, this will lead to improved health, reduced health inequalities, increased social inclusion and raised achievement for all.
To achieve this sought-after status the school has introduced a new food policy, which encourages your child to make healthy food choices. The food policy states that;
At break times children should eat only fruit or vegetables, milk or water.
Carbonated drink and sweets are not permitted in lunch boxes.
At school we will also praise healthy choices and we will be sending home termly newsletters to give you ideas on lunchboxes choices.
Thank you for your support and assistance.
