School Brochure: An Introduction
The current Bythams Primary School was formed in September 1988, when the old primary schools in Castle Bytham and Little Bytham merged. As a small and friendly community school it now serves the local parishes of Castle Bytham, Little Bytham, Careby, Creeton, Holywell and Aunby.
The school offers teaching space for up to 90 children and is located on the outskirts of Little Bytham. Our rural setting enables children to benefit from learning in a peaceful environment and have easy access to nature resources. The school itself maintains many original Victorian features but has been expanded and modernised to cater for modern teaching needs. We have a dedicated ICT suite and SMARTboards in all classrooms which are used across the curriculum.
We believe that the use of ICT is essential in preparing pupils for the modern world. We endeavour to incorporate ICT in all areas of the curriculum to enrich our pupil’s education.
Outside the children have access to a wide range of secure play areas including; a landscaped garden, an environmental studies area, sports field, forestry plot and a ‘millennium willow dome’. The Foundation/Key Stage 1 playground has been modernised and redesigned using innovative plans developed by our Key Stage 2 children. Play is an integral part of learning for Foundation children and therefore we have developed an all-weather, soft-surface play area for our youngest children to be able to explore and investigate. We also have a set of outside picnic benches, giving children the opportunity to eat lunches outside on warmer days.
The Bythams School offers a uniquely welcoming and friendly environment to help children learn and develop within a small local community. Using our size in our favour, we ensure that all children are treated as individuals and that their personal educational needs are met. We also encourage a positive team spirit enabling children to achieve their potential while maintaining a mutual respect for their workmates and teachers.
