School Brochure: Attendance
To give your child the best possible opportunity to learn, it is of course essential that he or she attends school regularly and punctually.
Legally we are required to check all absences and therefore appreciate receiving a note to let us know the reason of any absence from school, no matter how short. Please address this note to the child’s teacher and always make sure that it is signed and dated by their parent or guardian.
If we don’t receive a note or a phone call to explain why a child has not been in school, their absence is noted as ‘unauthorised’ and all such absences are closely monitored by the school.
We are pleased to report that there were few unauthorised absences recorded in the 2006/2007 school year and all absences totalled only 4.2%.
If you need to take your child out of school for any reason, a dental visit or hospital appointment for example, you should write to the head teacher in advance to ask for permission. Please remember that it will be your responsibility to collect and / or return your child to school.
If you are forced to take a family holiday within term time, you should also write to the head teacher in advance, to ask for permission. Legally your child can have up to ten days leave of absence in any one calendar year, but we are sure you appreciate that the less disruption they have within term time, the greater their opportunity to achieve their potential.
