School Brochure: The Role of the Governing Body

Under the 1988 Education Reform Act, governors have taken over many responsibilities from the Education Authority.

Governors are responsible for looking after school buildings and property, including health and safety aspects. They also deal with staff appointments and the pupil admission policy. Together with the head teacher, they are responsible for implementing the curriculum and ensuring that an appropriate special educational needs program is in place.

Financial matters too, are increasingly in the governors’ hands. The school continues to rely on support from parents to help raise extra funds, so that the school can arrange additional activities. The governors are also keen to listen to the parents’ comments and suggestions for improving our school.

Above all, the governors work closely with the teaching staff to make sure that all their responsibilities are dealt with promptly and professionally; ensuring your children receive the best possible education. Teaching staff are always invited to attend the regular governor meetings and actively contribute to the discussions.

We believe that a successful school is based on an active partnership between parents, staff and the Governing Body and will always welcome any new ideas you may have. If you have any queries or would like to raise any issues with the governors, please write to the Chair or the Clerk to the Governors at the school address.
